The University of Memphis has nabbed another Memphis high school top prospect. But this time, it is not in basketball. Larry Porter, head coach of The University of Memphis football team, was recently tabbed as best recruiter in college football by Rivals.com; but this was mainly for his work at Louisiana State University were he recruited some of the best players in the country. In Larry Porter’s first year as head coach at Memphis, he gained what is arguably the best recruiting class that the school has seen, despite the one win record. Porter’s recruiting power continues as he has now gained the commitment of Will Gross, 2012 Memphis Melrose quarterback who is ranked as the #14 QB in the country.
Gross is another top prospect from Melrose who has committed to Memphis recently; the first being Adonis Thomas for basketball (#2 small forward, 8th overall, in the country).
“I just love the city of Memphis,” Gross said in an interview with Vernon. “I’m going to be the million-dollar baby who can bring the community and Memphis State together.” - Will Gross on interview announcing commitment on The Chris Vernon Show July 19, 2011
The University of Memphis has always been known for keeping talent, especially in-home talent, with the basketball team. Maybe finally with the commitment of Gross, the football team will get more attention from the home town.
